Bethanie Sorensen, B.S., M.M.S., P.A.-C

Background

Bethanie is a nationally certified Physician Assistant who comes to Heart & Vascular Center of Arizona with over 5 years experience in cardiovascular medicine, with an emphasis on patient education and disease prevention.  She is an American College of Cardiology Cardiac Care Associate, an early career member of the American Heart Association, a Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, and a member of the American Society of Echocardiography.

In 2007, Bethanie was awarded the United Cultural Convention’s International Peace Prize for her commitment to ensuring access to basic healthcare internationally.  She is a 3 time recipient of the Cambridge Who’s Who VIP award (2006, 2007, & 2008) and is a lifetime member.

In 2003, Bethanie graduated from the Physician Assistant Program at Midwestern University, Glendale campus with a Master’s of Medical Science in Physician Assistant Studies.  Her masters’ thesis focused on cardiovascular patient care and outcomes and was entitled “Aortic Valve Replacement Using the Stentless Freestyle Xeonograph: Immediate Postoperative Hemodynamics and Clinical Outcomes”, which focused on the first 24 patients to receive the new stentless Freestyle aortic valve at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, Washington with the assistance of Dr. David Gartman of Swedish Cardiac Surgeons.

Bethanie graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry in 1997 from the University of Redlands.  There she led an interdepartmental research project culminating in her senior honors thesis, “The in vitro synthesis of Peroxynitrite and the study of its effects on Saccharomyces cerevisiae”.  This combined research effort across two fields of study ultimately lead to the creation of a Biochemisrty major at the University of Redlands.  She was inducted into PHI BETA KAPPA honor society in 1996.
